What's your job about?

Redox is a chemical importer and distributor with locations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and USA. I am based in the marketing and sales department, with my own customer base and a group of products to manage.

I manage around 10 different product lines at Redox, and my daily tasks involve updating pricing, checking stock availability and searching for new business in the market. I am also the manager for a group of customers in NSW in the water treatment and detergent sector, which involves daily visits on site with customers to help with their chemical requirements, as well as pricing schedules and entering orders.

Having your own accounts to handle is great as you get to go out and meet with your clients on a regular basis and build your accounts and business. It’s great to learn about various formulations and how they are applied to make things we use on a daily basis!

What's your background?

I grew up in Western Sydney, NSW

I attended St Gregory’s Armenian School up until year 10 in 2003. I completed year 11 and 12 at Bossley park high School graduating in 2005. I attended WSU and graduated in 2008. Worked full time during university at Oneworld Sport Parramatta. Started at Redox in 2009, had my first child in August 2015 and returned to work at Redox in mid 2016

I was approached with the position for Redox through a graduate recruitment company and made it through to become a Sales Consultant at Redox. I worked my way up through hard work and determination to reach Business manager.

I grew up in a multilingual household, and being able to speak 3 languages has shaped me to become the person I am today. I also believe my work experience has helped me with gaining essential life skills. Whilst I was studying at University I held a full time position as Licensee and Manager of a bar/club called Oneworld Sport Parramatta, and was the youngest licensee in NSW! My duties involved managing staff, managing security, training employees, dealing with suppliers, attending monthly meetings with local police and enforcing rigid RSA and RCG policies on patrons.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes of course. As long as you are determined and hardworking. Confidence, determination, and an honest work ethic are other characteristics that are essential.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

I love being able to go on the road and meet with my customers face to face. You get a feel of your customer’s scope of business and build a rapport with them which in turn helps you sell more. I also like attending trade shows and meeting with new suppliers for my products. Seeing the hard work come to fruition is very satisfying as hard work pays off!

What are the limitations of your job?

There are certain KPI’s we each have to meet monthly based on our positions here at Redox. Some people may not like working to set targets and having to exceed the bar set month after month. You also do have quite a lot of responsibility as you must maintain stock for customers and negotiate long term business and  work to deadlines, therefore you need to be on the ball at all times and have good time organisation skills.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

  1. Enjoy every minute of University! Time goes by in an instant and before you know it you are working and have a family and responsibilities and you don’t have the flexibility you use to have in Uni.
  2. Study hard but don’t let yourself get too stressed. Hard work pays off and you will reach your goals if you set your mind to them.
  3. Don’t spend on unnecessary things! Save up and invest in a home or property, it will pay off in the future.
